Why are artists releasing so much new music lately?
2024 has me bogged down with new music releases every week, from Zach Bryan to Dua Lipa
You should never hear me complain about not having music to listen to.
In the two weeks since I posted my last weekly release roundup, we’ve had new music from my faves including Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Kings of Leon, Dua Lipa, Judah & The Lion, Charli XCX, Julia Pratt, and more.
After listening to the new RKS record (as incredible as I remember it), I realized I’ve barely processed Maggie Rogers’ album from April 12, or the girl in red album from the same day. I was telling a co-worker recently how surprised I was that so many smaller artists also released the same day as Taylor Swift’s “Tortured Poet’s Department.” Now, we have Billie Eilish’s new album “Hit Me Hard and Soft” on Friday, one of my favorite duos Tommy Lefroy released single “The Garden” today, and Zach Bryan is already teasing a new album.
This could be my own fault for listening to so many different artists, and I may be revealing how little I actually know about artist management and music releases.
In a quick Google search, I found articles from 2018 and earlier on the subject but nothing too recent. The answer could have been implied: streaming services. Digital has saturated the media market, as we already know. There’s more music out there than ever. And newer artists especially, think Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan, need to keep up. When you’re hot, you want to stay hot, I would presume.
I won’t complain anymore about having so much new music to choose from. Maybe I’ll finally get around to finishing Dua Lipa’s album today.

Some Quick Notes
Since February I’ve been sharing a roundup of new music releases every week, both on TikTok and in this newsletter (As I just made a point to say, we’re not at a deficit of new music). It’s allowed me to add more value to my platform and motivate myself to write more. Last week, I took a much needed break. These posts may start looking shorter or at least vary week to week (I may skip releases one week, for example) as I start to expand my content and create space to write about more than just music.
Throwback Wednesday
Last month I was invited to Nashville to hear the new Rainbow Kitten Surprise record “Love Hate Music Box” and hear about the album’s creation from Ela Melo herself. The album was finally released on May 10, and I don’t think I’ll ever not listen to it and remember this incredible moment.
Happy Graduation Week
