Henrik wants to make saying goodbye a little easier
The folk artist echoes the likes of The Lumineers and Noah Kahan with a wholesome, wanderlust-ridden anthem
This is part of a weekly music newsletter I’m launching to shout-out new releases, spotlight artists, and share playlists. It will come out every Wednesday
If you’re on FolkTok, maybe you’ve seen some photo posts where one slide says “You don’t have to go, but…” and the second reveals a map with the lyric: “But oh oh oh whoa, if you have to go.”
“Grace” by Henrik is a Noah Kahan-esque track celebrating getting out of your hometown. In a video promoting the song, released in August, the artist wrote “POV: you just found a song that makes saying goodbye a little easier.”
I discovered the South Jersey-based folk artist on my FYP a few months ago when he released a fun track called “Go Birds,” about a heartbreak at an Eagles tailgate. Little did I realize he had a whole discography of main-character folk pop anthems in store.
I personally love when artists pay homage to their home cities, be it Philly or elsewhere. Where we’re from undoubtedly influences our creative work. Artists owe a lot of their inspiration to where they’ve been, as trending artist Djo puts it in an a verse you may have heard: “You take the man out of the city, not the city out the man.”
While I love to shout out a Philly-based artist, Henrik deserves national recognition on the folk pop stage, a genre we definitely can’t get enough of right now.

Alex Roma released his latest single Friday. “Bones in the Ground” is a beautiful tribute to a childhood best friend who lost his battle with mental illness and a haunting expression of love through art with a simple, yet powerful message. I highly recommend to any indie pop fans of artists like Alexander 23, David Kushner, Jeremy Zucker, etc.
